Ostium Now Does More Than Doors

Ostium has been supplying interior doors, frames and mouldings to builders, developers and architects across Cape Town and the Winelands for some time. Today we are adding three new services to the list: construction project management, quality and compliance management, and home defects and maintenance inspection.

The reason is simple. Our founder, Eugene Botha, has spent more than 20 years in the building industry, and he kept seeing the same problems on residential projects: budgets that grew, programmes that slipped, and defects that only showed up at handover. Too few independent specialists were around to stop them, so we decided to become one.

In this post you will find out what each new service covers, who it is for, and how Eugene’s experience shapes the way we work.

Why Ostium Is Moving Into Construction Management

Eugene has managed building projects across the Western Cape, including several in Val de Vie in Paarl and a multi-storey building in Sea Point. Every one of those projects taught him how much depends on having someone on site who answers to the owner.

“Owners and developers were carrying the risk on their own projects, with no one on site representing their interests. We built these services to close that gap.” says Eugene.

The new services are already at work. Eugene is currently managing the entire residential build of a project in Hout Bay, and that build is still in progress.

Our Three New Services

Project Management for Residential Builds

We manage new builds, alterations and additions, and developments from concept to handover. We act as the owner’s independent representative, coordinate the professional team, and keep cost, time and quality under control. You can appoint us for the full project or for individual phases, so you only bring us in where you need us.

Quality and Compliance Management

This service gives your project one programme and compliance function. It covers the construction schedule, the quality holding points, the RFI register and the Certificates of Compliance. You receive weekly reports and a live progress dashboard, so you always know where the project stands without chasing anyone for an update.

Home Defects and Maintenance Inspection

We inspect newly completed and recently handed-over homes and give you a photographed defect register, sorted by priority and grouped by trade. You can hand it straight to your contractor or developer for rectification, and everyone works from the same list.

What Independence Means for Your Project

Independence is the thread that ties these services together. “Our clients get an independent voice on site,” says Eugene. “We answer to the owner, not the builder, and that changes how problems get raised and resolved.”

In practice, this means issues reach you early and in writing, with photos and a clear record of who agreed to what. Our door supply business runs separately from our management and inspection services, so what we recommend on your project is based on your brief and your budget.

Who We Work With

We work with private homeowners, developers, investors and body corporates in Greater Cape Town, Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands. Contractors and architects will also find us a useful partner, since our doors, frames and mouldings are still part of what we do.
